Thursday Getaway: Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival

At this point in the week, we suspect you're in the mood to get out and enjoy the world outside of your computer screen, but it's Thursday, and you can't -- yet. Don't despair! We've got just the thing to make you smile, daydream and draw inspiration from for your weekend, which is just around the corner.

We're super excited to be a part of this year's Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival, taking place on Kingman Island on the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. Why? Because it's unlike any other outdoor fest. From the event's site: "This signature music festival highlights DC’s local bluegrass tradition and engages community with the revitalization of Kingman Island and the Anacostia. In 2014 the Washington Post said the festival “sounds about perfect” and called it “refreshingly different.” In 5 years the event has grown to become the largest all local music festival in the National Capital Region, attracting over 13,000 attendees in 2014."

This year's event takes place on Saturday, April 25th and you can purchase tickets here. Be sure to watch the above video from last year's Fest to get a better idea of how beautiful the event really is.
