Lake Street Dive: #BringYourOwn on Tour

We have a problem. In one year, Americans use 58 billion to-go cups and 35 billion plastic water bottles. Klean makes solutions. Today as a certified B Corporation, we not only create the highest quality reusable products on the planet, we work hard to bring benefit to the people and places we touch—and we do everything we can to keep single-use waste from trashing the world. That’s where you come in: it takes a movement of people willing to step up and make the decision use reusable products. Here's a story of a group of people that you may know who did just that. We hope it inspires you to give it a try!

When we first heard from Lake Street Dive, we were excited to know that they were fans of Klean from day one. All of the band members had their own Klean Kanteens, and loved them! A lot of us at Klean HQ blushed when we found out. Then, Lake Street Dive went on to win our hearts. Their manager wrote us, saying: "We are working on "greening" up our touring – and I want to make sure we don't use any plastic water bottles anymore."

We've been following Lake Street Dive ever since, and the band – amid growing popularity and non-stop tours – has held true to their word. When they're on stage, there's not a plastic bottle in sight. In fact, there's often a Klean or two.

We caught up with Lake Street Dive recently to learn a bit more about why they made this change to begin with. Here's what they told us:

"We tour eight months a year and have eight people on the road with us. We're not good at math, but we know when we were all drinking our recommended eight glasses of water per day out of plastic bottles, the amount of empty bottles that would multiply around us was overwhelming! The tour bus was drowning in empty water bottles. Drawers were full of them, they spilled over our recycling containers, you'd kick them on your way to the bathroom and wake up to them in your bunk. It was a constant source of clutter in our lives and the more the bottles piled up, the sadder we would get about how much waste we were creating due to the transient nature of our work and the inescapable human need for hydration.

Now that we've switched over to using Klean Kanteen for our hydration needs on the bus, and on stage, our lives have become easier, happier and literally cleaner! We no longer have to locate recycling opportunities in different towns every day. We can feel good when hydrating instead of staring down another empty bottle of helplessness. And we no longer wake up in a sea of empty water bottles! We each wake up to our own personal, beautiful, shiny thermoses from Klean Kanteen. Thanks Klean Kanteen! P.S. They also keep coffee really hot and beer really cold!!"

We're so proud to collaborate with like-minded friends like Lake Street Dive, and we know that their commitment makes a difference. If you love the band like we do, make sure to stay tuned for their upcoming new album release, Side Pony, coming out February 19th!
