Newport Folk Fest: Hydrating a Rhode Island Summer Classic
THIS WEEKEND WE ARE HEADING TO NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, FOR ONE OF THE OLDEST AND MOST ICONIC MUSIC FESTIVALS IN AMERICA: NEWPORT FOLK FEST.
Founded in 1959 by George Wein and Pete Seeger, Newport Folk Festival has long been known for its celebration of American music–folk, the blues, jazz and rock. The festival has also hosted a number of once-in-a-lifetime moments such as Bob Dylan going electric in 1965, The Pixies going acoustic in 2005, and performances by Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters, Janis Joplin and Howlin’ Wolf.
This year, the Newport Folk Festival is implementing Klean Kanteen’s Cup Karma® program, which helps festivals eliminate waste by introducing alternatives to single use cups. With the purchase of a reusable Klean stainless-steel pint, the festival is offering one free drink token to encourage attendees to reduce waste and create a more sustainable experience in the festival beer and wine gardens. In addition, Newport Folk branded Klean Kanteen water bottles will be available for purchase, and attendees will be able to fill up their bottles using water stations provided by Klean Kanteen.
In recent years, Newport Folk Festival has made considerable efforts to green its event. The festival requires all vendors to use compostable cups and plates, offers multiple recycling stations and encourages ride sharing and bike stations. The festivals massive bike stations support one of the largest riderships of any festival in the US.
We are proud to be part of this Rhode Island summer classic and hope to see you there!
